Workshop: This workshop presents real-world clinical experience regarding the implementation of family focused counseling and therapy with families where children refuse to visit one of their parents. The presenters will discuss the challenges of implementing this model of Case Management and Reunification Therapy and the factors contributing to its effectiveness. A typology of different parent-child alienation pairs is offered to help distinguish the most promising situations from those in which interventions are more likely to fail. The presenters also discuss the structuring of the therapy through court orders and how this significantly impacts the efficacy of the work. Case examples are included to illustrate general principles. Implications for the use of Reunification Therapy are discussed.
