We know that people living with mental illness are at higher risk of co-morbid medical conditions such as - Moderator: Ken Duckworth, M.D., medical director, NAMI, Arlington, Va. - Margarita Alegria, Ph.D., director, Center for Multicultural Mental Health Research, Professor of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass. - Grayson Norquist, M.D., M.S.P.H., professor and chairman, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Miss. general population. While higher rates of smoking, poor diet and sedentary lifestyles are major contributors, we still don't know why these risk factors are more common among people living with mental illness. This session will explore what research must be undertaken to improve the general health and wellness of people living with mental illness.
