Black Men and Suicide Prevention: Ask the Tough Questions - It May Save a Life There is a lot of stigma in the African American community regarding mental health issues and seeking help for them. In the past, the belief was that black men didn't engage in suicidal behavior. Now there is a large increase in suicides among African Americans, as evidenced by CDC statistics. It is important to understand the risks and to intervene. In this session, participants look at signs, risk factors, and how to rescue men who feel hopeless. This workshop provides hope that learning new principles and skills will save a life and rescue a person in crisis. Debra Anderson, RN, NAMI Santa Clara
