Joan B. Kelly, Ph.D.

Dr. Kelly is a psychologist whose research, clinical, forensic, and teaching career of 35 years has focused on child and family adjustment to divorce, custody and access issues, child development, divorce and custody mediation, and parenting coordination. She founded and was Director of the Northern California Mediation Center for 20 years. She has published more than 80 articles and chapters in these areas of interest, and is co-author of Surviving the Breakup: How Children and Parents Cope with Divorce. Joan presents seminars and keynote addresses throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad.

Dr. Kelly has been honored for her work with many awards, including the Distinguished Mediator Award from the Academy of Family Mediators, Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and the Stanley Cohen Distinguished Research and Meyer Elkin Awards from AFCC. Joan presents seminars and keynote addresses throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad.

Commissioner Marjorie A. Slabach

Marjorie A. Slabach has been a San Francisco Superior Court Commissioner since May 1997, initially serving as the Child Support Commissioner, and then since 2000 as a Family Law Commissioner, where she has been presiding over child custody, family support and property matters.

The Commissioner is a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law and a Certified Family Law Specialist. She practiced with a small Sonoma County firm for fourteen years prior to her appointment. She has served as a speaker and panel member for many CLE courses and seminars for the Bar/Bench educational programs as well as for other professional groups related to the court.

Prior to becoming an attorney, she taught junior high and high school students for fourteen years in Indiana. She continued her teaching career as an instructor of Family Law at Golden Gate School of Law and Empire School of Law for a total of ten years.

Commissioner Slabach is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Court (AFCC), as well as other professional and judicial organizations and has a special interest in the welfare of children caught in the cross-fire of litigation.

Diane Wasznicky, JD

Diane Wasznicky, JD, received her undergraduate degree in psychology, sociology and law from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1977. A native of Massachusetts, she moved to California in 1977 to attend law school at the University of California, Davis, receiving her Juris Doctor in 1980. In 1989, she co-founded the firm of Bartholomew & Wasznicky, specializing in Family Law. She is certified by the State Bar of California as a Family Law Specialist.
