10 K at 6 am? Sample
Dennis O'Hanlon came to town to play at the annual Manhattan Beach Home Town Fair. For over 20 years, he has played at the finish line of the 10K run, and this year, he asked me to play bass. We played songs like Walk Don Run, I'm Walking and a bunch of other running songs. It was a lot of fun.
Dennis stayed over at my place and we had to get up at 5:30 AM to be ready to play at 7 AM ! (What the hell kind of musicians life is this? We are supposed to staying awake all night and sleeping all day I thought.)
So, we get up at 5:30, drink the hi-powered coffee and I grabbed my citern the 8 stringed Irish instrument that looks like a lute, and I start playing this riff (that I had stolen from myself. You may recognize it on this record.) Dennis grabbed his guitar and like that... we are playing this little diddy.
I quickly grabbed a little digi recorder and caught what we were doing. We went and played for the few thousand runners and then played at another party the same day.
We came into the studio a few days later and cut the track with me on citern and bass and Dennis on acoustic guitars, cabasa, shaker and udo drum.
It feels like a running song to me... but I wont try to find out. You put it in your IPOD and go running ok?
